If UO were its own city this 20,000-student community would rank among the top 15 most populated in Oklahoma. But there's such a small town feel many students engage in leadership activities on campus, including organizing events to keep students entertained. The Greek community is alive and well here. Besides Sooner football, students reserve other pieces of pride for the marching band, the drama program, and the ever-famous meteorology department. Though a part of the Bible belt, students are receptive to new perspectives.

Top-tier college athletes often face difficult decisions at the end of their respected season. The most difficult of all, is whether to stay in college or to go pro. To some the decision is simple, but to others there are several aspects to consider. Some college athletes wish to stay for four years and graduate with their college degree in case their professional career does not fan out. Some wish to stay with their teammates for another year, in hopes that they will win a national championship. Others, however, tend to opt of college and turn pro where they will stand to make millions of dollars. Oklahoma Sooner's Blake Griffin said yesterday that he will give up his final two years of eligibility and head to the NBA after a sophomore season in which he was honored as college basketball's top player by the Associated Press and several other groups. Griffin led the nation with 30 double-doubles and 14.4 rebounds per game, while averaging a Big 12-best 22.7 points. In the NCAA tournament, he was better - averaging 28.5 points and 15 rebounds to lead the Sooners to the regional finals, where they lost to eventual national champion North Carolina. Griffin, is all but guaranteed the number one spot in the upcoming NBA draft, and in turn will be guaranteed several million dollars. Commenting on his decision, Griffin stated, "It's tough to walk away from something like this but at the same time, it's a big opportunity and I felt like I was ready for it this year."
