Brandeis University COMMENTS

The most popular sport at this school is either the rousing Friday nights of Trivial Pursuit or the intellectual debates that frequent Brandeis on a regular basis. When it comes to knowledge and academics, students are very outgoing. Being a little nerdy is a trend that will never die, and students love being in a community where they don?t feel the social pressures of a typical college. Students still get crazy, just not with regards to sports or parties, instead with theater expression and good clean liberal fun.
The Prudent Student (October 11, 2009)
Are 250 student-run clubs and organizations enough for you? At recent count, Brandeis had 19 service organizations, 24 cultural awareness groups, 34 performing groups (including eight dance troupes, nine instrumental groups, 11 vocal groups and six theater groups), 15 spiritual and religious groups, 41 sports and games clubs, 26 student leadership and activism groups, 14 student publications, television station BTV and radio station WBRS. For those of you counting at home, that adds up to 170, which means there are another 80 or so clubs and organizations that defy categorization. One of the main centers for student activities on campus is the Shapiro Campus Center, a $28-million, limestone and copper landmark run by and for Brandeis undergraduates. It houses student organization offices, a theater for undergraduate productions, a bookstore, a café, computer clusters and lounges with fireplaces.

irst-year students are guaranteed on-campus housing at Brandeis for their first four consecutive semesters or three consecutive semesters if they enter midyear. Housing is assigned in either the Massell or North residence Quadrangle. These quads feature doubles, natural triples (two rooms with three people) and lofted rooms (accommodating three people). Each quad is supervised by a professionally trained quad director who is assisted by several upperclass students serving as community advisers. Each residence hall in the North and Massell quads features: Lounges to foster socialization, study-group opportunities and programming A large community space with a big-screen TV and billiards and foosball tables Kitchen facilities equipped with community refrigerator, stove/oven, microwave and counter space Laundry facilities All of your residence life concerns will be well served by a helpful team of quad directors, CAs, and residence life staff. They'll also provide programming in your residence hall, including barbecues, faculty lectures, "munchies" sessions and informal get-togethers. To make your transition as smooth as possible, we have an entire Department of Residence Life, staffed by 11 professionals and 67 students.
The Prudent Student (October 11, 2009)
Characterized by academic excellence since its founding in 1948, Brandeis is one of the youngest private research universities, as well as the only nonsectarian Jewish-sponsored college or university in the country. Named for the late Justice Louis Dembitz Brandeis of the U.S. Supreme Court, Brandeis University combines the faculty and resources of a world-class research institution with the intimacy and personal attention of a small liberal arts college. For students, that means unsurpassed access - both in and out of the classroom - to a faculty renowned for groundbreaking research, scholarship and artistic output. At Brandeis, professors bring newly minted knowledge straight from the field or lab to the graduate and undergraduate classrooms. Brandeis supports an innovative and exciting program of learning that emphasizes an interdisciplinary approach to knowledge and the solution of real-life problems. Undergraduates, from the very first year, enjoy leadership positions and research opportunities typically available only to upperclass and graduate students. Located in Waltham, Mass., on 235 attractive suburban acres, Brandeis is in an ideal location just nine miles west of Boston. Brandeis is ranked in the top tier of the nation's universities. Our graduates depart to pursue careers in a wide array of fields, and advanced studies in the nation's leading graduate and professional schools.

I'm not sure if I'd like such a small school
emily (May 2, 2008)
Although it's small, you really get to know your community which definitely makes it easier to work with other students.
hzgellz (November 18, 2007)
I didn't know Brandeis had such a quality music department. Being a musician and prospective student, I definitely need to look into this more.
